Alexandre Ribeiro started Jiu-Jitsu at the age of 10, way back in his hometown Manaus, state of Amazonas, Brazil.  He started at the Monteiro Brothers school, at the time Purple belts form the Academia Gracie (Royler Gracie)

At that academy he got the nickname XANDE and since then is know for this name.

Xande always have been a accomplished fighter, have won all multiple states championships and probably accumulate not more the 3 losses until the age of 17.

At the age of 18, moved to Rio de Janeiro to join Law School, and yet found some time to train and win 2 world championships, couple pan americans and regional tournaments all of this in the purple and brown belts.

So the story that really matters starts when he got his Black Belt from his brother and Master Saulo Ribeiro, this was in March of 2001.

And the real journey start. In his first tournament as a black belt, Xande won the Absolute division at the Pan American Championships, and since then Xande always have been a Absolute hunter, but of course, always focused in his division.

Next year, in 2002, Xande show that he was no joke, and took 3rd place at the Absolute in the Worlds Championships losing to the champ by only 2 points…and what really made him feel, was that he lost the chance to close the finals with his brother Saulo, that took 2nd. Unfortunately in the same year tournament, Xande got hurt in his first division match and coldn’t be that year’s champ.

In 2003 Xande was still off, but he had the chance to fight the World Submission Fighting Championships ADCC and got 4th place, great result for the first time, and after that, was it for the year, and another injury took him out of the Worlds BJJ.

But 2004 was a great year, Xande comes back strong and win the Brazilian Nationals Division and Absolute, World Cup of jiu-Jitsu and reached the long waited World Championship, winning the Heavy Weight division and taking 3rd in the Open, Xande was back.

In 2005 another Pan American Title and a World Cup Division and Absolute title, doing in one single day 8 matches, but one week later, Competing at the World Championships , ended up taking 2nd in his Division, but in the end a great year, when we add a great performance at the ADCC, taking this time 3rd on his division and 4th in the Absolute.

Then 2006 came, started with another Pan American Title, and another World Cup Title, but the best was yet to come.  WORLD ABSOLUTE CHAMPION and Heavy weight champion, scoring 8 matches. And for that year, the dream was reached.

2007 came, and Xande started the year with the ADCC Worlds and great performance ADCC WORLD SUBMISSION FIGHTING CHAMPION for the first time, and after that World BJJ, this time the 3rd World Heavy weight Title and 3rd in the Open, but Xande was left starving for the next year.

Then 2008, that was redemption….. no more to say… WORLD ABSOLUTE JIU-JITSU CHAMPION….. Again and for the 4th time World Heavy Weight Champion, this tournament really seal Xande’s name in the history. BUt despite all of this, Xande always kept himself as an example of humility and sportsmanship, never losing his love and passion for the art o JIU-JITSU.

In the year of 2007 another dream come true, him along with Saulo, found the UNIVERSITY of JIU-JITSU, the modern temple of the samurais and for the people that really want to learn the GENTLE WAY, as a martial art, sport or simply a way of life.
