Glad to announce that on December 7th of 2011 I will start my Jiu Jitsu program at the Academy True Warrior Fitness in Los Angeles. I will have a full schedule for Morning and Evening Classes.

Jiu-Jitsu in Los Angeles

Hi Everybody,
Haven’t blog here in a while, so I ll give a little resume since Abu Dhabi and give you the brand news.
In Abu Dhabi I won my division on the No-Gi Tournament, but in the Gi I popped my rib and I keep fighting and end up losing a close match to always tough Lucio “Lagarto” . After that could not recover in time for the worlds and now I’m focused on the ADCC World Submission which is going to be in September.

Another new is that I just moved to Los Angeles, I’m looking for the perfect place to build my Dojo, but due to so much travel, I ll open the official academy early 2012. As of now I ll be teaching a limited group of students, but there are still spots available, and those students will be the core to build my future school. I ll be teaching Tuesday and Thursdays from 11:30 am to 1pm in an Academy located on La Brea and Melrose, when you send me your inquiry I ll give full details.

Hi Everybody,
Training going great, Im getting my rhythm back and feel good to fight 6 minutes matches. The only down point for that is the leg holders, they will hold on to you for 5 min and try to sweep you in the end, and like Jack Johnson say: “where all the submissions go”.

Great Weekend for Jiu-Jitsu

Hi Everybody,
What a weekend hein, all over the world so much going on!! lets start srikeforce, Roger didn’t miss one position, pure Jiu-Jitsu, takedown, domination and finish, always nice to see it. Jacare has done the same, but got caught up in a stand up fight, but he showed his heart, came back of a knockdown and put his Jiu-Jitsu in place just like his fellow BJJ ace, Pass, back control and Mata Leao all the way.
From Strikeforce to Lisbon, Ribeiro Jiu-Jitsu and Gracie Humaita showed so much heart and technique, just to mention, Johannes Wieth from Germany taking the gold at borwn belt and Michael Liera Laking the gold at the always tough Light Weight Blue belt, and lost in a controversial fight in Semis, not to mention the team Leader Rafael Lovato Jr, taking second in his division. For Gracie Humaita we had Megaton and Mackenzie taking everything , while Leticia and Bia took third in their division, Remember, its all a tune up to whats coming next.
Now Abu Dhabi Trials Vegas, I have to say the we sweep all the tickets there. Zack Maxwell, Kron Gracie, Kevin Casey, Carol and Jen taking the airfare and gold, lots of lower belt golds too and 2nd places, Next in line, trials in San Diego.

So great to see all the effort from everybody, as for me just making my notes. Great battles coming ahead and cant wait to change from a analyzer to a show member.

Hi Everybody,
After so long Im back to the US. Right now, Thanks to on flight internet I m online. Brazil trip was great and enough to show my little girl some of Brazil and to recharge the batteries and meet old friends and get to exchange some position with my old school tough friends too.
Se lets go to news. As everybody knows last year was very odd. I was supposed to fight a MMA tournament that didn’t fall thru, so me, as a warrior said, Im in shape so I ll compete the worlds, no excuses I have lost, maybe the best lost I could have. For some time I close myself to a womb and didn’t follow what was new in BJJ, so I went there in shape, but no timing and mind somewhere else that wasn’t there. The result was good, and In the end, I think I didn’t deserve to win, because I haven’t focused in BJJ for almost a year, and I was fighting a gentleman that was giving his life for it. Talent I have but I didn’t have it on me that day. Two losses in two days and definitely …. Hardwork will beat Talent. So I gather my stuff and went to a No-Gi battle at Grapplers Quest and fought arguably the best No-Gi fighter in this year. Fight was good and a big mistake, I fell into the best trap that my opponent had, leg lock heel hook combos and in the middle of the defense a “pop” and here it go one more injury and me… one more time beat. But …. there is no loss with a reward of learning and reinvent yourself.
And I see myself after 3 months back in training but with a doubt of what path to go, and guess what……
2011 is the year that I back and focused in what I do best witch is to train and fight BJJ and Grappling, I know MMA is there for me, but right now MMA is Just an affair and BJJ is my love , my passion and my way of being myself.
Once they asked me for 2011 if my plans are to equal Roger on the absolute title… and that answer of course that is yes along with all those new stars that I have fought and I want to fight so bad. But, before anything else, I want to keep and use this fire that is inside me right now, and to put so much hard work, intelligence in order to train and to help all my brothers in arms. Rediscover not the love that I have in Jiu-Jitsu, but the passion and pleasure that for a bit I have lost.
If I will win, I don;t know, but I promise hard work and the best Xande that yet haven’t been shown even after all those world titles.
So hard work, talent and blood in the eyes…. lets see what happens.

This week has been great, for the first time I got back for sparring class at The Arena. No kicking of course but I got to throw my hands a lot. Got really tired but felt great to be doing this. Worlds 2010

After a lot of soreness and teaching and back in track, I get some time to write about the Worlds.

First off, thank you for all the support from my fans, It is great how much all of you remain on my side.

In this case, sometimes for me (that is not used to lose), is hard to take something good. But after all, I really enjoyed compete at the worlds and was an outstanding experience for me…… For the first time I walked out without a gold medal, but in the end I felt like a champion. After 2 years coming back and taking 2 medals is awesome, “but my gold… It’s all the love and support I felt in all my 8 fights” . Now I will really feel what is to be respected in the whole term of the word, because when you win is easy, but when you lose…. everyone go away, And in the end… You all stayed, and I felt great, even on defeat.

There are no excuses for the loss, and Im fine with it… but not happy, I will train harder and harder everyday and will be back.. with same attitude and love on the heart.

8 fights, 3 subs and great opponents. I m so stoked.

And now about the tournament, Unfortunately we didn’t see too much Jiu-Jitsu… the real one… BJJ rules are messing up what jiu-jitsu really is. People are fighting for the advantage, for the point and for the win…. but… what about attacking the arm, triangles, chokes, collar chokes…. now jiu-jitsu/BJJ is all about the sweeps, about holding the legs and stalling….. nobody attacks anymore. Please people, lets fight, lets see the truth… I miss times when we saw closed guard and a blitz. Now Jiu-Jitsu is reduce to halfs, fiftys fiftys, 1/4 guards, Oh my God , this is terrible, they are ruining the ART and the Sport is boring…. Where are the Takedowns?… no no… flying half guards and siting on the butt. Where are the hands in the collar, x chokes , triangles?… no no… only holding half, 50/50s, sleeves.

You that is reading, Im not against the new stuff, they are great, and I love it… but Jiu-Jitsu, the real one is about Submission, takedowns , Dominance…not points. People hold halfs, 50/50s, sleeves for 5 minutes, That is TERRIBLE!!!!!

2 things…. or the rules change , or WE CHANGE… so lets sart with US. Lets take people down, lets go for submission, that is the evolution.

Jiu-Jitsu must remain real, must remain with the roots, Jiu-Jitsu is life.

Taking all the drama out… My props for Roger, he really proved MY Point what Jiu-Jitsu is… simple, efficient… beautiful… I wish I had fought him, next time…. and for now he is the man, and real Jiu-Jitsu is in great hands.
